AACA Meeting: August 19, 2008
AACA FORUM

The most highly attended AACA meeting of the year is right around the corner. The AACA Forum will take place on August 19th, 2008 at the Cobb Galleria. The half day format will be the same this year as it has been in the past – you get to choose two breakout sessions out of the three available followed by the keynote presentation.

The keynote presentation this year will be given by Jennifer Attaway, a Senior Consultant with Hewitt Associates. Her presentation entitled “The Multi-Generational Workforce – Does it have an Impact on Total Reward Strategies?” was popular at the WorldatWork conference and is sure to be a hit. For the first time in U.S. history, large numbers of employees spanning from four different generations are actively working side by side. These four distinct generations have differing needs, expectations and wants in the employment deal. What does this mean for Total Rewards? What are the innovators doing to adjust their Total Reward strategies to help retain key contributors as the talent challenge continues? Three key points that attendees will take away from the presentation will be:
  • Ideas on Total Reward strategies and design alternatives that employers need to consider to continue battling the talent challenge.

  • Important facts and anticipated future trends regarding the U.S. workforce and the implications on Total Rewards planning and design.

  • Creative perspective on how to measure the value of Total Rewards.

In addition to the keynote presentation, you will have the option of attending two of our three breakout sessions. They are as follows (when you register, you will have the ability to pick your two breakout sessions):
  • Option #1 - Sales Compensation – 7 Mission Critical Decisions – Presented by David Cichelli and Chris Nagle from the Alexander Group, Inc. – Attend and learn what the 7 most important decisions affecting successful sales compensation outcomes are. Learn when and where to ask these questions, as well as what the good (and not so good) answers are. This session will give you great tools for helping sales management ensure success of their sales compensation plans.

  • Option #2 – Staying the Course: Human Capital Management for Times of Slow Growth– Presented by Mitch Barnes from Mercer Human Resources Consulting – Is talent an investment to be managed or an expense to be reduced? The International Monetary Fund predicts that global growth will decelerate in 2008. The US is leading this slowdown with its housing crisis, credit crunch and gas price hikes – resulting in a deepening strain on consumers. Although the US economy is not the central engine of global growth it once was, the global economy is not insulated enough to weather the impacts of a US recession. Economic slowdowns pose specific challenges to employers, especially with regard to their talent management strategies. Mitch Barnes will share findings from Mercer’s new report, Human Capital Management Strategy for Times of Slow Growth, which resulted from interviews with top US clients who shared their insights on the human capital implications of a slowing economy.

  • Option #3 – Excel Best Practices for Compensation Professionals– Presented by HCR Software Services – As compensation professionals, excel remains a valuable and robust tool – whether you are using it for analysis or compensation management or both. HCR Software is dedicated to helping users get the most out of Excel in their compensation processes. This session will help compensation managers identify best practices that will enhance their department’s work process and will illustrate to compensation analysts how to improve their efficiency and work product using Excel.
