    To fulfill this role, the Consultant will:

    • Manage client projects by:
      • Preparing project charts and templates using project management tools, estimating hours for the project team, and preparing timelines for project milestones
      • Serving as an independent project manager for more straightforward projects or modules
      • Ensuring client projects adhere to budget by immediately addressing out-of-scope issues or budget overruns and managing client expectations
      • Prioritizing project activities to manage the workload and meet project deadlines
      • Delegating project tasks in line with individual capability, development needs and available analyst and associate resources
      • Writing engagement letters including project steps for senior consultants' review
      • Leading client project status meetings

    • Write and review client PowerPoint presentations/reports including Excel exhibits and initial data conclusions; work closely with senior consultants on project to determine the exhibits to be included in the final client presentations
    • Write project proposals and answers to Requests for Proposals; suggest project extensions based on existing work; attend sales calls
    • Develop new tools and templates that can be leveraged in multiple markets; deliver standard training programs; ensure intellectual capital generated within own projects is captured and available for others; proactively contribute to personal learnings, insights and knowledge through the knowledge management forums

    Qualifications

    • An MBA, Master's in Industrial and Labor Relations or related degree including significant coursework in finance, economics, statistics, mathematics, human resources (HR) and/or accounting, or equivalent work experience preferred
    • Minimum of five years of relevant work experience in management consulting, compensation, finance, human resources or accounting preferred; project management experience; experience in data analysis, financial modeling and presentation design

    • Use Research Insight and public filings to gather financial data.
    • Develop and review peer groups - lists of organizations against which the client organization is compared (e.g., based on revenue, brand, industry, etc.) and/or are the client's direct competitors.
    • Use Mercer's proprietary tools and public filings to gather pay practices and policies. May also research other sources to solicit industry knowledge, company news, competitor reports on industry trends, etc.
    • Provide guidance to project team analysts and ensures timely delivery of work and achievement of project objectives.
    • Typically manages smaller projects and work streams of larger client projects.

    Qualifications

    • Monitors the effectiveness of existing compensation policies, guidelines and procedures recommending plan revisions as well as new plans which are cost effective and consistent with trends, best practices and corporate strategies.

    • Participates in the implementation and administration of long term incentive programs.  Assists in the preparation of materials for the Compensation Committee of the Board of Directors, including materials for the annual proxy statement.

    • Collaborates with IT in the design, development and implementation of automated solutions to improve and administer annual merit and incentive plan payments processes.  Responsible for the administration of the automated solutions for the enterprise.

    • Recommends promotional increase amounts on non-management employee promotion requests. Approves the compensation and job titles on new hire offers.

     • Provides in-depth strategic research, analyzes data, interpret results and recommends solutions.

    Business Acumen:

    • Responsible for maintenance of job documentation and internal controls for the compensation area. Maintains an awareness and compliance with all federal, state and local compensation laws and regulations.

    • Completes FSLA compliance testing and pay equity audits.

    • Keep current on compensation market trends and recommend process improvements based on best practices.

    • Responsible for the creation and execution of compensation project plans.

    Engagement:

    • Collaborates with HR Analytics and Payroll to ensure job and pay changes are administered timely and accurately.

    • Serves as a lead in the development and dissemination of employee communication materials relating to compensation projects.

    Driving Results:

    • Assists in the administration of the company incentive plans; both short and long term.

    • Serves as lead for the annual merit process.

    • Conducts and participates on cross-functional teams to complete ad hoc compensation related projects or initiatives.

    • Prepare various ad-hoc reports and statistics.

    Qualifications:

    Education, Certifications/Licenses: 

    Required:  B.S. in Business or Accounting/Finance or HR related disciplines                        

    Preferred:  Certified Compensation Professional or Professional in HR designation        

    Experience in administering compensation programs including market pricing, job evaluation and short and long term incentive plans is required.  Must have knowledge of and be able to apply compensation-related regulations.

    Related Work Experience:

    Required:  5-7 years’ experience administering broad-based, short term and long term compensation programs.

    Applicant may possess a combination of equivalent education and work experience.

    Specific Skills & Knowledge:

    Required: Market pricing, job evaluation, incentive plan calculations and the ability to apply knowledge of compensation-related regulations. Excellent oral and written communication skills.  High degree of proficiency with Excel. Strong analytical and quantitative skills to collect and analyze data, identify issues and recommend possible solutions.  Excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and manage competing priorities.  Ability to handle high level of confidentiality regarding employee information.

    Preferred:  PeopleSoft HRIS and merit planning/bonus payment module experience

    Summary:

    This position provides analytical support for a wide range of compensation programs/projects designed to support business strategies.  Assists in the design, implementation and administration of innovative compensation programs and policies. This may include base pay programs, short- and long-term incentives, reward and recognition programs, and benchmarking and survey analysis. 

    Responsibilities:

    Performs professional level administrative and analytical duties to maintain and administer company compensation programs/policies.   Conducts research, analyzes data and prepares recommendations requiring a broad understanding of compensation techniques, methods and practices.

    Serve as an internal resource to HR team, recruiters and managers regarding compensation program/policy administration.  Provides counsel to HR and management regarding compensation actions for employees.

    Review proposed salary adjustments for conformance to established guidelines, policy and practices; recommends corrective or alternative actions to resolve problems.

    Reviews requests for new or revised classifications to determine appropriate salary grade assignment.

    Coordinating and conducting job evaluations and departmental compensation reviews (market pricing, internal equity, career ladder development).

    Create and analyze compensation data to assist with program/policy design and implementation. 

    Requirements:

    Bachelor’s degree in related field. 5+ years experience as a Compensation Analyst.  Healthcare experience preferred.  Ability to influence, solve problems and successfully collaborate and communicate with clients.  Expertise in financial analysis, statistical analysis and data modeling.  Strong Excel, Access and HRIS experience.
